Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is a renowned Spanish painter and sculptor who is considered to be the founder of Cubism. Picasso’s father was a painter and an art professor, who had passed both his knowledge and love for art to his son. As a child, Picasso was considered a prodigy, and had mastered realistic painting techniques. In 1900 Picasso had moved to France, where he befriended many successful artists from the Montmartre and Montparnasse quarters of Paris, and became a central figure in the local art scene.
Picasso had developed and used various painting styles, and his work is often divided to periods, such as the blue period, the pink period etc. Over the years his work had become more and more abstract, and around 1907, started to show African influences. These influences later led Picasso to develop the style known as Cubism along with the French painter Georges Braque. Picasso had also pioneered the use of collage in painting, which was later adopted by many art movements, including Dadaism.
Today Picasso is recognized as the most prolific painter of all time and his works are displayed all around the world.
